Shopping in the City: Fashionable New Year Destinations

January means New Year’s resolutions, shiny new gym memberships and best of all, the beginning of the January sales- handbags at the ready, ladies! There’s few activities that can thrill a woman in the same way a 50% off price tag can, so, read on for Fiorelli’s guide to the most fashion forward New Year destinations.

The Big Apple

As Frank Sinatra once sang, “I want to be a part of it, in old New York’ this is perhaps the most desirable shopping location on the planet. Whether it’s a Brooklyn flea market for a rummage or Saks Fifth Avenue for a snoop at items we wish we could afford, New York is a retail paradise!

Cocktails in Manhattan are an essential for New Years Eve itself, sip a Cosmopolitan in the plush surroundings of Above 6, or venture to Bathtub Gin, an unassuming coffee shop with a glamorous wine bar in the back.

Off the beaten track:  Century 21 is home to major designer garments at a snip of their original price. Shoppers can expect up to 40% off on a regular day and the January sales are likely to mean further price hikes for the keen eyed bargain hunter.

Pop into The Cheesecake Factory for a mighty slice of red velvet or key lime cheesecake, it’s a must for anyone with a sweet tooth.

The City of Lights

The Eiffel Tower, melt-in-the-mouth Ladurée macaroons, and steak au poivre, it’s easy to see why Paris is such a fashionable travel destination. The shopping capital of Europe is packed with glamorous boutiques, patisseries and shopping districts which are irresistible to us fashionistas.

Begin your shopping tour of Paris at Le Bon Marché – the world’s first department store. This upscale retail heaven is just a 20 minute stroll from the Eiffel Tower and even if you find yourself window shopping, it’s worth visiting just to admire the impressive design. The Marais quarter is also a must-visit for eclectic fashion, fine art and the place to find one off pieces from up and coming designers.

NYE: You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to New Year’s Eve party ideas. Witness the gorgeous Paris illuminations, hop aboard one of the many river cruises which run along the Seine river and boast free champagne, an irresistible 3 course dinner and dancing, or, find a prime spot at the Champs Elyssé where you can watch fireworks above the Eiffel Tower whilst sipping a chardonnay and observe well-dressed Parisians.

The Big Smoke

For the serious sale seekers, there’s no better UK shopping destination than London and whether you choose the area of Covent Garden, Westfield, Oxford Circus or Regent Street for your sale splurge, you’ll find an array of gorgeous shops and boutiques around every corner... And be spoilt for choice with the amount of luxurious hotels to stay at.

Accommodation: Stay close to the shops at San Domenico House – a beautifully furnished, Italian run boutique hotel or Dean Street Townhouse – decadent Soho accommodation bursting with cosmopolitan cool.

For a fashion-forward night out, head to Mahiki, Mayfair’s finest cocktail bar where you can quest your thirst for an alcoholic beverage by drinking cocktails out of treasure chests and sea pearls. Don’t forget to indulge in a spot of celeb spotting, Mahiki is a regular hang out for A-listers.
