Shopping in the City: Fashionable New Year Destinations

January means New Year’s resolutions, shiny new gym memberships and best of all, the beginning of the January sales- handbags at the ready, ladies! There’s few activities that can thrill a woman in the same way a 50% off price tag can, so, read on for Fiorelli’s guide to the most fashion forward New Year destinations.

The Big Apple

As Frank Sinatra once sang, “I want to be a part of it, in old New York’ this is perhaps the most desirable shopping location on the planet. Whether it’s a Brooklyn flea market for a rummage or Saks Fifth Avenue for a snoop at items we wish we could afford, New York is a retail paradise!

Cocktails in Manhattan are an essential for New Years Eve itself, sip a Cosmopolitan in the plush surroundings of Above 6, or venture to Bathtub Gin, an unassuming coffee shop with a glamorous wine bar in the back.

Off the beaten track:  Century 21 is home to major designer garments at a snip of their original price. Shoppers can expect up to 40% off on a regular day and the January sales are likely to mean further price hikes for the keen eyed bargain hunter.

Pop into The Cheesecake Factory for a mighty slice of red velvet or key lime cheesecake, it’s a must for anyone with a sweet tooth.

The City of Lights

The Eiffel Tower, melt-in-the-mouth Ladurée macaroons, and steak au poivre, it’s easy to see why Paris is such a fashionable travel destination. The shopping capital of Europe is packed with glamorous boutiques, patisseries and shopping districts which are irresistible to us fashionistas.

Begin your shopping tour of Paris at Le Bon Marché – the world’s first department store. This upscale retail heaven is just a 20 minute stroll from the Eiffel Tower and even if you find yourself window shopping, it’s worth visiting just to admire the impressive design. The Marais quarter is also a must-visit for eclectic fashion, fine art and the place to find one off pieces from up and coming designers.

NYE: You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to New Year’s Eve party ideas. Witness the gorgeous Paris illuminations, hop aboard one of the many river cruises which run along the Seine river and boast free champagne, an irresistible 3 course dinner and dancing, or, find a prime spot at the Champs Elyssé where you can watch fireworks above the Eiffel Tower whilst sipping a chardonnay and observe well-dressed Parisians.

The Big Smoke

For the serious sale seekers, there’s no better UK shopping destination than London and whether you choose the area of Covent Garden, Westfield, Oxford Circus or Regent Street for your sale splurge, you’ll find an array of gorgeous shops and boutiques around every corner... And be spoilt for choice with the amount of luxurious hotels to stay at.

Accommodation: Stay close to the shops at San Domenico House – a beautifully furnished, Italian run boutique hotel or Dean Street Townhouse – decadent Soho accommodation bursting with cosmopolitan cool.

For a fashion-forward night out, head to Mahiki, Mayfair’s finest cocktail bar where you can quest your thirst for an alcoholic beverage by drinking cocktails out of treasure chests and sea pearls. Don’t forget to indulge in a spot of celeb spotting, Mahiki is a regular hang out for A-listers.

Are you a sale queen? Tweet to tell us about the best sale purchase you’ve ever made at @Fiorelli_Bags, and don't forget you'll be able to snap up a bargain from the comfort of your own home with our own January sale at Fiorelli.com - more details to be revealed soon!

How To Style your Fiorelli Clutch Bag for Your Christmas Parties

The festive season is fast approaching and here at Fiorelli HQ, we’re already excitedly planning all of our Christmas party outfits. We’re guessing that we’re not alone either! And we also know that selecting the perfect party dress is only half of the process, as accessorizing with the right piece of arm candy is equally as important.

So, we thought that we’d extend a helping hand by providing you with a little party time outfit inspiration, and show you how to style three of our stylish clutches in time for your Christmas parties!

Classic

Opting for a stylish LBD is always a winner but that doesn't mean that you can’t do classic with a twist. Choose a little black dress that’s subtly infused with a fashion forward trend. For instance, edge up your look with a leather look finish, or up the Christmas time glamour stakes by working ruffles or feathers into your look.

Our quilted effect Chelsea shoulder is the perfect combination of sleek and edgy, which would fit in perfectly with this look. And it even comes with a detachable shoulder strap enabling you to take it from day through to the evening.

Vintage

You don’t have to be the world’s biggest vintage fan in order to enjoy injecting a splash of vintage style opulence into your look every now and then, and what better of an occasion to dress up than at Christmas?!

Our Gabby shoulder with detachable strap definitely has a vintage feel about it, and would work equally as well with a luxurious feeling Twenties inspired tassle dress as it would with a beautiful retro printed dress.

On Trend

Our luxurious Juliet clutch is the ultimate party piece, - it’s sleek, stylish, and the perfect size for all of your party essentials. Rest assured that you can easily fit your favourite lipstick, mirror, mobile, and make up must haves all inside! And it’s versatile enough to sit alongside an array of trend led dresses from winter florals through to our favourite lace numbers.

Why not show us your Christmas party clutch style? Tag your stylish photos on Twitter @Fiorelli_Bags.

How To Care for your Arm Candy

You spent weeks agonising over which handbag to choose, and now that it’s arrived you couldn't be happier with your shiny new purchase! You store it pride of place, take it absolutely everywhere and show it off to everyone within fifty feet.

Fast forward a couple of months and suddenly your beautiful leather handbag has become a dumping ground for tissues, receipts and general junk, - you've even taken it out in the rain! Sound familiar?

As much as we love handbags, we’re all guilty of neglecting our precious arm candy from time to time. However, fear not, with our new season handbag in transit, we’re vowing to change our ways this autumn. Read on for the Fiorelli guide to caring for your new season handbag. Your handbag honeymoon doesn’t have to end!

Protecting your handbag from dust, bacteria and stains
A dust bag is an absolute staple when it comes to keeping your handbag in pristine condition. Some handbags come with a complimentary dust bag, but if yours doesn't then it’s well worth investing in one to keep dust, bacteria, scratches and stains at bay. Leather or fabric handbags often become stained when they come into contact with metals and dark colours, so storing your handbag in a dust bag will prevent stains.

Fiorelli Top Tip: Stuff structured handbags with tissue paper to help maintain their shape and to prevent creasing.

Protecting your handbag from the great British weather
Living in the UK, it’s difficult to avoid taking your handbag out into the occasional downpour or thunderstorm, however regularly using a protection spray will help to combat any damage. Depending on the material of your handbag, different methods can be applied.

Suede – Taken your suede grab bag out into a monsoon? Don’t panic, dab the handbag with a dry, clean cloth before allowing the rain spots to dry naturally.

Leather – Technically, a high quality leather bag should be able to stand up to weathering, however if you are worried about rain spot stains, indulge in a spot of leather handbag cleaning by wiping the handbag with a dry towel.

Take care whilst using a leather cream as many contain harsh chemicals which could lead to discolouration, instead spray with waterproof leather spray which is available to purchase at all good cobblers.

Heat waves are lovely, but they’re not so lovely for your handbag and can lead to your handbag drying out or discolouring, keep your handbag out of direct sunlight whenever possible.

Fiorelli Top Tip: Invest in a suede and leather waterproof spray - spritz your bag before it's outing and it should withstand most of the elements. Top up this protective layer every month or so, and see just how long your bags lasts.

Do you have any trusty techniques for keeping your handbag free from harm? We’d love to hear your tips. Tweet us at @Fiorelli_Bags.

Discover What's In My Handbag: Lisa Wood, Senior Designer

Ever wanted a sneak peek inside the contents of a creative designer’s handbag?

As a company who specialises in fabulous handbags, we often have Fiorelli fans asking us what we carry in ours. This season, we managed to persuade our very own Senior Designer, Lisa Wood, to do the honours and give our followers an insight into the inside of her arm candy:

Lisa, Fiorelli's Senior Designer

Lisa reveals what’s in her bag:

* This season Lisa is carrying the Fiorelli Harper bag in cobalt blue; she also keeps her valuables in her Fiorelli Vera purse. Both are from our SS14 collection, designed by Lisa herself!

Between designing Fiorelli’s luxurious leather collection and globe-trotting for inspiration or work purposes, Lisa is one busy lady. Be it sketching potential designs on a plane journey, or touching up her make-up prior to a client meeting, this handbag is just the right size to store all of her daily essentials she needs in her day-to-day role at Fiorelli. Lisa lives and works in London.
Currently, Lisa’s Handbag is carrying:

- iPad
- iPhone
- Notebook with handbag design sketches
- Sketching
- Berocca
- Tom Ford perfume, White Suede
- Tom Ford bronzer and Tom Ford blusher brush
- Chewing gum
- Keys with holder

In addition to giving us a sneak peek into the contents of her handbag, we asked Lisa to name a few of her favourite haunts both locally and internationally:

Where is your favourite place to shop when travelling?
Hong Kong, I love the contrast between small quirky boutiques to the bustling night markets.

How about when in London?
Liberty is full of inspiration and Portobello Road is great for browsing old and new finds. Shoreditch and Brick Lane are a must when shopping for vintage.

Where are your favourite places to eat?
I have a few... Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental, Hawksmoor in Shoreditch and Gilgamesh in Camden.

Thanks Lisa!
